It’s that time again. The only local festival of its kind that we know of, Worst Kept Secret Fest, is back to present a wild party full of bands and art, for free and with lots and lots of PBR. This time they have a new home – a skate park near an airport. Skate Naked is the name of the venue.

Etc Etc Etc kicks off the festival on Friday. Frontman Natty Bumpo is known for doing just about anything at the band’s house shows and the band has a DIY persona that is loud, in your face, and is stopping to apologize for no one. They are unpolished and proud of it. Natty took some time to be answer our Q&A for WKSF VII:

Q: What is the best beverage to enjoy at one of your shows? Likewise, what usually keeps you going onstage?
A: Um… Alcohol. Any kind really. The more the better.

You have a task of getting a person to one of your shows, but they will not hear your music before you go onstage. What do you say?
Have you ever heard a dying cat? It’s like that, only if the cat were a Furby and it were dying in a blender

What’s most encouraging about the current state of the music industry?
Taylor Swift.

What’s been some favorite releases of the band so far this year?
As far as things in the community: Stella‘s Big Table, No People. Pretty much anything by Nuclear Moms. Katherine’s album. That’s all I can think of at the moment.

Who from Columbus definitely needs to be heard more in the outside of Ohio (other than you, of course!)?
I’d definitely say Nuclear Moms needs to be heard more, they’re one of my favorite local bands.

Name the best live band you’ve seen: what made it memorable?
As far as locals (in Ohio that is) Fertile the Drip out of Cleveland puts on a ridiculous show.

What is the most memorable venue you’ve played and why?
Witler’s on the 8’s in Cincinnati because of how wild everything was.

Who inspires you? Doesn’t have to be a musician.

Since we’ve already discussed your live show, tell us what it is about your upcoming records that you are most excited about.
Everything is conceptual.

What’s your favorite method of discovering new music?
Word of mouth. Mostly from my mouth to Nick’s ears.

Star Wars Ep 7 – yay or nay? why?
We have mixed emotions about it. The fact that George Lucas is no longer involved means they won’t Phantom Menace it, however, the fact that none of the literature that was released is having a major hold on the story means it could be the J.J. Abrams Star Trek of the Star Wars world.
