Since the Nickelback writeup was wildly popular, I decided to start a new series I’m calling “What the people say”. Imagine Dragons is the second group to get the crowd sourced review treatment.

I imagine that radio may end up ruining this song like they’ve done to all of the other Imagine Dragons singles, but that’s precisely why I’ll refrain from tuning into “alternative” radio and instead listen to “I Bet My Life” on my own volition.”

“I actually find it kind of lackluster for an Imagine Dragons song. I really enjoyed how they have such a huge sound in a nice little package, so to speak, but I turned this song off within the first minute of listening the first time because it’s just not my favorite release from them. It’s too Mumford and Sons for my taste and I missed the boat on loving them as well.”
-Juliet Kozlow, Tuned Up contributor
“I tend to be less objective when I know the people creating the music, so this is harder for me. But this song sounds like Phillip Phillips, and I don’t like him with a strong passion because his sound his stolen from a minimum 4 other acts. But I loved their 1st record.”
-April Kulscar, Columbus music connoiseur and booking agent at Brothers Drake Meadery
“Yeah this band is terribly overrated just like a few other bands that have recently “exploded””
-Tiera TBird Suggs, concert photographer
“As with most Imagine Dragon songs, I will probably listen to and like it more than I would like to admit. Although it is a funny how perfectly they copied the sounds of the Classic Crime and Philip Phillips into one song. Also as with most of their songs, it’s composed in a way that makes it difficult to dislike it (not because it’s amazing, but because it’s syncopated, tonal and sounds like a lot of other popular songs.)”
-David Appelt, occasional guest writer and general music nut
“To this point, I have really liked the samples and instrumentals used in their music. But the verse melodies and lyrics rarely impress (and yes, this sounds like a Phillip Phillips song, and that should stop). I would like to see this song live to make a full judgment. The ending is nice though, reminds me a lot of the band Fun. If anything, the radio will overplay the hell out of the song and soon, everybody will just find it annoying.”
-Jack Doran (Burlap for Bear, The Runovers)
“I am a huge fan of Imagine Dragons. I found their music back in 2011 and have been listening consistently every since. Despite my love of their work I Bet My Life is (in my opinion) poorly written, poorly produced, and just down right awful. It sounds kind of like that one single that everyone thinks will take off, but we all know will sell less than half of the expected copies.”
-Elijah Knapp (Poleis)
“I think the song itself is well written and catchy. Its nice to hear them put out a single that is not as electronic. The samples of random children are kind of annoying and could be the one thing that turns me away from going out of my way to listen to this.Overall, I like the song aside from the fact that it sounds like they recorded it during an elementary schools playground at recess.”
-Knox Fields (The Beast and His Image, Youth Hostel)
