Video Premiere: Quiet Signals – Quiet Signals

We’re pleased to premiere the new video for Quiet Signals’ titular track.

Quiet Signals is the new instrumental post rock project from Ohio guitarist Nick Kizirnis, who is best known for his work with Midwest surf trio The Mulchmen, though he has collaborated with many artists, such as Tobin Sprout, Robert Pollard, and Pixies side project The Breeders.

Quiet Signals came to life during the early days of the pandemic as canceled tours and shelter-in-place orders brought everyone’s lives to a halt. In the seemingly endless stretches of time that quarantine brought, Kizirnis decided to start writing the hushed ambient music that had always interested him but was set aside by other obligations. He enlisted Lung cellist Kate Wakefield to help fill in the atmospheres and the two cowrote back and forth digitally.

“Quiet Signals” initially seems soothing, a delicate acoustic line buzzing over a wash of strings. But just as lockdown wasn’t an altogether peaceful time, there are some unsettling moments as the song progresses.

Quiet Signals is out February 17 on Bandcamp and all streaming services.
