There’s a Christian Metal church in Columbus, Ohio. It’s called Christcore Brethren Church and it meets twice a month. They are starting up on March 21st, 2025 after a 3 year hiatus.
Paul Timothy is a name I primarily know as an online pen pal. But lately, I’ve seen him promoting what appears to be a new, or at least rare, concept. A church centered around Christian heavy music.
The so-called “Christcore” movement of the mid-2000s peaked during the MySpace years and acts like Underoath, For Today, and August Burns Red led a movement of scenesters. It faded into obscurity, but in recent years there’s been a resurgence of acts leading with bold lyrics rich in theology and reverence. Acts like HolyName are at the forefreont of this, while acts such as Bloodlines and No Treaty have enjoyed moments of virality and internet fame (and infamy – Bloodlines’ mosh call “Pornography will NOT take ahold of you! For I can do all things through Christ!” made them an internet punchline for many). One thing is for sure; with clips of underground acts raking up millions of views on social media, this movement isn’t going away anytime soon.
Christcore Brethren Church offers an outlet for heavy music fans to dive into Scripture and discussions of faith while meeting and bonding with likeminded metalheads. Their website is no frills. It simply tells you they are a metal-themed Bible study and offers the location and meeting times. The group actually met regularly for 5 years, but ended in 2017 when one of their members passed away unexpectedly.
The website elaborates, they meet on the “1st and 3rd Fridays of the month at 6:30 – 8:00 pm at 473 W. 3rd Ave, Columbus, OH.
Our metal and hardcore-themed Bible study group open to whoever would like to check it out for our mix of Lyric Discussions, Bible Studies, and Prayer Requests.”
Two bands have launched out of the church. You can stream them below. If attending something like this piques your interest, see the details in the previous paragraph. They are also open to prayer requests via their contact form and social media DMs.
