Scottish band The XCERTS display a sound that doesn’t reign in their desire to let us know that they’re going through some emotional moments. The band, depict swollen love, and the way it can beat you down, leaving you broken-hearted and cold to the touch. Learning How To Live And Let Go is an album that best describes the hardships of losing love, and the lust that goes with it, the bond that truly tightens.
The bond has snapped on this release, and the band has begun to write more clearly about the state of their minds, the pretentious lovebirds who walk the city unscathed, looking pretty and totally immersed in a loop of their own desires. The act is talented, there’s no doubting that, and their album may not hit you right away, but when it does, you’ll feel the frenzy, the story gaining traction.
It’s a dramatic record this too, with those commanding riffs making waves, and the story unfolding every second. 12 songs make up the album. Car Crash Culture opens with speedy guitar moments, and the lyrics tell us that there’s no satisfaction to be had. It’s a infectious blend of music and sheer angst.
Ache starts loudly, catching on, and letting us into the band’s fractured world. The lyrics are brilliant, and they showcase the pain the band feel, every time they look at themselves, while the room spins.
Drag Me Out has been penned well, with piano vibes, melodies and structured commentary. Self-doubt creeps in, and the world screams like the man behind the microphone. It’s a highlight of this track, and one that perfectly resonates.
The XCERTS possess the knack of using their pain as album material, and this record really does cut deep.
