The Hunna may have hit the mainstream, and they may have added a certain sheen to their music, but underneath all the glitz and glamour, the band stays humble. Their music hasn’t lost the edge, the roughness or the lyrical bite, which shows their worth as a collective. Their self-titled record has all the groove and significance as their last record, and the lyrics are still have the same meaning. Still young, the band has the chance to elevate even further.
The music is finely tuned, and there’s still heart and soul in everything they do. The album blossoms with every listen, creating a atmosphere, pulling the listener in and readying them for a full bloodied experience. The band’s style is unparalleled, and their hopes and dreams are instilled on this LP. Musically, we’re taken on a journey, where the guitars are fuzzy, and the whole set-up is well tuned in.
Emotions run high here too, and The Hunna does not claim to be anything they aren’t. On this release, the poignant songs develop, and the loud ones excel, and the slow ones gather momentum. Expertly driven, the tracks merge in unison, telling stories and breaking ground, and this album really does shine.
The Storm opens the record with expert instrumentals. There are bellows in the background. Find A Way Out (Back To You) starts with commanding vocal work, and a poignant stab at lyricism. The slow build up is beautiful and when the song elevates, it’s thrilling. A sad song, a song worthy of adulation. Circles blends in well-crafted guitar work, and the vocals describe someone in need of aid and salvation. It’s a well-balanced track. Sold My Soul starts off in the same vein, and the band shows their thunderous side, and their lyrical chops, while staying grounded.
The Hunna break ground here, and their music remains thrilling. This is their next step into the limitless light.
