The Burden – Terminal

Post-hardcore band The Burden cleverly implement an array of styles into their dark edged music, proving that they have what it takes to rise above the rot and rust. The band also integrates lyrics which are there to provoke responses from listeners, words that detail flaws and lost desire. By making this record, the band opens up their hearts and minds which are ready to be placed under the spotlight.

Gaining traction, the band is steadily rising and their unsweet songs manage to get people thinking and listening to every aching lyric and every technical riff. From the beginning of Terminal, a blast of post-hardcore hits and then the lyrics demand to be read and taken in, while the atmosphere becomes frantic.

The Burden seems to have everything in check, with those screams a trademark sound, though there are clean vocals too, calming the commotion just for a slender while. This contrasting style has been done before many times, but there seems to be a uniqueness to this band’s output.

Stardust Oblivion starts the record off with hard-hitting screams and instrumentals, and there’s an emo connection here. It’s fast, it’s pleasing, it’s frantic, and the lyrics detail hope of being crushed and thrown to the wolves.

Vertigo Reverie is intelligent, and the grit is real. The screams come in fast and then the clean vocals rise into the scene. Again, the lyrics convey a hopelessness that can’t be shrugged off.

Sparkle Moment begins with frenetic edges. There are growls here, and the song bursts into a well-rounded chorus. The band look to put their lives into focus, but they can’t rid themselves of feeling despondent. It’s another gritty assessment of a broken mind-set.

The Burden strike for first place, and they’re not far off from making it a reality. Their music has this original spin that many bands lack in this genre.
