American singer/songwriter Taylor Acorn drives home a lyrical masterclass with this record, Survival In Motion. The enigmatic musician, strives for a better world, but is surrounded by remnants of broken desires and ghosts. Her songwriting has gone up a notch, and every song has a beating heart, a story, which gives us an insight into her world.
The instrumentals are rapidly ascended and the all-round production is polished, but not saturated. Acorn sings with an edge that compliments the sonic values, and she directs her voice of reason to the masses. Breaking the boundaries of pop punk isn’t easy, though Acorn does her best to barge through with authority.
Opening song Survival In Motion is a stellar exploration of greed and a diminishing world. Acorn sings with an eagerness, biting her lip for a revolution, and striving for a resolution. The guitar presence increases the appeal.
Greener opens slowly until Acorn lifts her vocals complimenting the rip-roaring instrumentals. She vocalises about her pain, and he wishes she could step out into paradise, a utopia where people socialise without craving a golden status.
Final Nail is full on. Acorn sings proudly, and she dances with the rhythm. It is a short burst of pop punk, and the sound is immaculate. Lyrically, the track points to a man crawling back to his darkness.
Taylor Acorn has produced a collection of songs which tells us tales of her own struggles. She is a prime songwriter.
