Though the days are getting shorter, sunny days just hit different in the fall. Perhaps it’s because the days are getting noticeably shorter. It’s as if God programmed the best weather of the year to be during a time in which He knows you won’t take the sun for granted.
OM53 exists in this liminal space in some of the music he releases. It’s carefree yet pensive. A paradox of sorts. A lot like the God he directs his adoration toward. Here, he collaborates with fellow reverent synth pop artist THE ONE HE LOVED. This is my first experience with the latter.
“Honey” communicates a richness and a sweetness that requires some effort to listen to and digest. It’s not a bubblegum pop song with a neatly packaged chorus that will repeat in your head until you get annoyed. This is a song meant to be savored, though it would fit well on a driving playlist as well. It’s suitable for a morning commute.
The pair of artists sings of being “in harmony with the redeemed.” Oh, what a pleasant place that is to be.
