I guess this isn’t a full review since I haven’t taken full advantage of the app technically, but I thought I’d post a response anyway. In short, Tastebuds.fm may be the best dating site you’ve never heard of. And, it has established a presence among the myriad of other Spotify apps.
What is Tastebuds.fm and why is I AM TUNED UP interested? In short, they are a social network and dating site that matches people based on their musical tastes. You can import your library from Last.fm or your Facebook “likes” for quick, easy compatibility searches or you can run searches with custom artists chosen. Thus far, you can also sort by whether one is interested in friends or more, age range, ethnicity, and geographical proximity. One thing I like about the Spotify app is that when it provides your search results, it shows ALL matches, not just the group limited to a 250 mile geographical radius. Not that people searching for dates beyond a geographic scope is always practical, but it can be fun to broaden your horizons of people with similar music interests. One criteria Tastebuds.fm does lack, however – religious preference. Now, before you shout at me to get off Tastebuds and onto Christian Mingle remember that for many people, this is a make or break characteristic. Musical preference is an excellent icebreaker, however.
So, have I had any “bites”? Not really. I haven’t been taking the app too seriously though. I mainly joined to see what they are all about and look for strengths and weaknesses. I’ve gotten a number of profile views and two messages. One is from a cute, tall, 23 year old with identical music taste…from Adelaide, Australia. I was recounting this story to a group of friends one evening and my friend Emily asked, “well, did you respond?” When I said I did she about died laughing before saying “I am completely in support of this relationship!”
So, my conclusions are this: until Tastebuds.fm grows a bit more and diversifies its search criteria, it will be mainly good for searching out local concert buddies and for a few laughs. But, in this changing world you never know what could happen…
hi, what does spotify have to do with tastebuds.fm?
