SINGLE REVIEWS: POP PUNK EDITION

Paramore-“Hard Times”:  Okay let’s get this out of the way, bands grow.  Bands change from time to time. Do you really want the bands you love making the same record over and over? I don’t. This song is from album number 5 for Paramore. We have seen them change from album to album and this is just the latest. This is a fun good single to start with. I for one dig the 80s vibe. It reminds me of Blondie.

Fall Out Boy- “Young And Menace”:  Here we have the opposite of Paramore. This change is not good. I don’t know what they were thinking when that decided to record this. I truly hope the rest of the album doesn’t sound like this. I would say that Patrick had a little more say in this. If so he should have saved this for his solo stuff. This is not Fall Out Boy.

Broadside- “Puzzle Pieces”: When I last interviewed the guys in Broadside they mentioned the new album would be a little different. Based on this single this album is going to be stellar. Besides the music itself, the aspect that sticks out are the words and the meaning. I love the interlude, “The highest powers want you to believe that the biggest difference between the human species is class or race. However, our only defining traits are passion and resistance.”  If that doesn’t resonate with you then I don’t know what will.
