Q&A with Night Argent, your next favorite cinematic sounding band

By Ryan G

There have been many bands following the path of groups like Imagine Dragons, Walk the Moon and The 1975 with cinematic, electronic-tinged bombastic pop in the past few years. Night Argent, for whatever reason, has crafted songs in this realm that manage to help them stand above the crowd in the eyes of this music blogger.

After an excellent debut EP, the band is back with an effort they’ve titled The Fear. The synth is heavy, and they mean business. “Dreamcatcher” is a personal favorite off the record, that exemplifies that. But with an EP title like “The Fear,” they had better pack a punch!

Tuned Up had the chance to ask the band some favorite questions of ours from past Q&As as well as some new ones. We hope you’ll take the time to dig into what these boys from Seattle are all about and get to know them a little bit below.

TUNED UP: Tell us about a record that has shaped you personally within the last five years.

Night Argent: Jon Bellion, The Human Condition. Its an incredible record, that shows a broad range of styles and capabilities. I’ve always limited myself based on a narrow mindset of what our band sound could/should be, but now that we’re back in the studio, I’ve been utilizing that new mindset to write whatever comes to me.

If any band that no longer exists could headline a show you play, who would it be and why?

Loudermilk. Hands down. They may very well be the largest musical influence to ever originate from our hometown, and it would be surreal to share the stage with them.

Describe your music with language as if you were ordering a five course meal.

Our music would be more along the lines of a vegas style buffet. You’d have the most prominent dishes centered around anthemic rock with heavy drums, guitar, bass, and synths. Surrounding the main draw would be a variety of other options from things like EDM, trance, pop, jazz, blues, power ballads, folk, tribal, hip hop, r&b, and even some country.

Do you remember the first album you recieved/purchased? What was it?

When I was young my parents gave me a cassette walkman and an Elvis album. I loved that thing. Still have both to this day. They still work, and I listen to cassettes regularly. Without my parents exposing me to such a variety of music, I don’t think I’d be on this career path.

We’re coming up on autumn and Halloween festivities. What’s a memorable costume you’ve seen in recent years?

Saw a guy dressed up as Bumble Bee (Transformers), and could actually crouch down and fold up into the car. Mad props to that guy for the time and effort that went into that costume.

What’s an alcoholic beverage that would pair well with your music?

Whiskey. Our music can be big and bold like a well aged Scotch, or nice and smooth like a mellowed Bourbon. The variety available with Whiskey covers the entire spread of energies our repertoire encompasses. Something for every palate/palette.

What’s encouraging to you about the current state of music?

I love the fact that broad exposure is available to anyone and everyone. Social media platforms have revolutionized the way artists can share their music, so you don’t have to move to the big city to be a struggling artist anymore. Now you can just struggle from your hometown, like us.\
