It takes a lot for me to be blown away by a live performance these days. Have you heard the phrase “familiarity breeds contempt”? Well, I’m flirting with that going to live shows of bands I don’t know, I fear.

Fortunately, on occasion a band like WORDS comes along to help me shed my budding live music curmudgeon personality.

I’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but I wasn’t feeling like myself the last day of Audiofeed Festival this year. I was putting on smiles and an outgoing personality to network and spread the word about Tuned Up, but I wasn’t feeling it. Salt Creek woke me up, and then WORDS got the adrenaline pumping.

Ever since Audiofeed I’ve haven’t been able to get one song out of my head I heard live that week for the first time, and I believe it was this one. WORDS brings together the best of electronic, post-hardcore and emo into one epic package that sounds like it came from the future. Tuned Up’s in-house hypeman Marco Castro will love the bilingual aspect of the song, I’m sure. If you have been following this blog a long time, you might recognize WORDS as being the voice of Least of These’ Jonny Gore.

This song takes me back to the days of jamming Secret & Whisper on repeat. If you pay attention, you’ll hear Bradley Hathaway’s contribution—it’s not as overt as you would expect.

“Consume” is the latest single to be released off WORDS forthcoming EP titled Trees, which will be released on Honey Gold Records.
