If you’ve been following the central Ohio DIY scene as of late, the name Villagerrr has been rather hard to escape, and with good reason. They released their slacker rock record titled Like Leaves at the end of 2022 and it served as a fitting introduction to the post-Holiday winter months this year. It’s the sort of thing you’d jam with your friends while sipping an IPA in a cozy dive bar.

Villagerrr is relatively new to the central Ohio scene but has quickly captured the attention of many, including CAAMP’s own Evan Westfall who promoted the artist early this year via his own label Supersport, and now the LA based Darling Records (run by Nick Faidley formerly of Secretly Group).

“See” heralds the next era of the project and they are celebrating with a new single and music video. Says the director, Trevor Hock about the filming process: “I love making videos, and I’m really happy the footage mostly consists of my friends eating hot dogs and goofing off.”

Mark Scott, the man behind Villagerrr is excited about the evolution of the project, and no doubt continues to be influenced by his upbringing and life milestones occurring in smaller cities around the state (Portsmouth, Waverly, and Chillicothe). This laid a humble foundation that people find appealing. Regarding “See,” Scott mentions, “It was cool to see this one change overtime and grow into what feels like one of the most intricate songs I’ve put together. And it’s helped a lot by Boone Patrello and his brother Dutch filling it out with cello. Using a baby grand piano for the first time etc., was fun to see what taking more time for an idea to develop could turn into for me.”
