Pony – Velveteen

Pony has created a record that describes love and its downfalls as well as its benefits. It’s a soft album Velveteen, but it doesn’t lack the edge, and the act detail through their writings sad times and honest times, moments when the world can be gracious and when it can be a platform of hatred.

The musicality here is great, as the guitars engage and the vocals are angelically placed, igniting a synergetic presence. From the beginning of the album, we hear the band putting their all into the process, and that shows sincerity and workmanship.

It can be a pessimistic listen, proving that the band is sad too, and they don’t let that slip them up, but they embrace it. Sadness in music means emotion, and if the music has no emotion, then it’s usually flat and uninspiring. Pony has embarked on developing these songs as poignant reminders, as emotional pieces of truth.

There’s 10 songs here. Sick balances competent instrumentals with soft vocals. The stomachs are churning and the days are wasting away, and the band break conventions here, as they push their sound to the max.

Haunted House begins loudly until it becomes a soothing embrace. The vocals yet again are pristine, and the guitar presence is technical. Reality is fading.

Did It Again opens with vigour. The chorus bursts with intent and hope, and it doesn’t go along the same lines as previous songs, as it has more bite.

Sunny Rose is fuzzy and the instrumentals are on top here. Stress becomes a ailment, a debilitating disorder.

Pony has pieced their own album of songs that resonate and tell stories, fables which can be dark, and yet, light does shudder in infrequently.
