Point North assesses their mental health on their EP Psycho. It’s a ride into a battle charged push for peace when the world corrodes every second of every day. The band has much to say, too much to dwell over, when they’re cut up and trying to piece it all back together. Shadows consume this band, and there’s a darkness shrouding every dream. The act also play for the fallen, the outcasts, the non-believers, and their music connects on a high level.
The musical aspects are on point as the band play riffs which complement the shuddering melodies. Point North knows how to construct meaningful harmonies too, and with Psycho, they’ve scaled up. Distinctive and unapologetic, the guitar parts are pivotal to the band’s makeup, and the lyrics they have produced are story-driven.
The gloom doesn’t lift much, but the band know they’re in a fight for hope when it all seems to be breaking. The words sung tell us that the band is looking to dismiss any regime or façade. Opening song, Psycho breaks in with volatility and sturdy guitar riffs, enforcing lyrics which describe a man on the ropes.
Safe And Sound opens slowly and builds up in tension. The band sing for glory when the world they hate gnaws at them. Love is explored here, though it cuts deep. That chorus is built on layers, and the screams increase the tautness. It’s another well rounded track.
Dark Days is a poppy song, though there are rock influences. The chorus bursts in and shows the band’s adeptness at creating infectious heart-pullers. It’s a dark song. There is no doubting that, but it’s one that offers clarity.
Point North offers an EP which conveys death and broken hope while being such a distinctive listen.
