Pierce The Veil faces their demons head on and the plight is real. From the start of their record, The Jaws Of Life, the act scream for closure and resolution, finding nowhere to rest their heads and crippling anxieties. Throughout the album, hope batters along slowly like a car with an engine that’s on course to shut down, and we hear through the lyrics the emergence of emotion.
The instrumentals are on point here too and the riffs are technical and pleasing, driving in and showcasing the musicality of Pierce The Veil, and being a band which has always shown diversity within their sound, The Jaws Of Life, is their most revealing record yet.
Truth and desire come together and shake things up on this release, while the themes can be unnerving. Thoughts spark stories about the end of days, the drunken dirges that take over a person’s mind and body, and the scars that will be present forever. The Jaws Of Life tackles these subjects, enforcing a plotline which is thrilling, but so frightening at the same time.
There’s 12 songs here, 12 songs that exhibit pain. Even When I’m Not With You boasts a shifting riff and brooding vocal work. Lyrically, it portrays a crumbling future. Flawless Execution is another stab at rock, and the chorus sends shockwaves with its meaning. Another well rounded track, it sparks fury.
Shared Trauma reveals mental torture and the daily struggles that inflict life. It’s a slow song, building on its subtle intentions, and it’s a source of bravery. So Far So Fake is a guitar driven song bracing the storm of emotion, and the chorus sticks deeply in the mind, proving Pierce The Veil is capable of leaving a lasting effect.
Pierce The Veil has created their most vulnerable record, one that displays their natural abilities but also shows they’re not fully happy.
