Trapped in their own minds, and trying to salvage their lives, Palisades takes no prisoners on their record Reaching Hypercritical. The record is a stab at rock, with heavy undertones adding a volatile contrast, making it bashful and highly engaging. By putting this album out, the band has bared their souls and has given us an insight into their unkind world. They also push for change here, and they shed their honesty like skin.
Breaking the mould in the rock scene takes immense knowhow, but the hooks and lyrical content this band has provided will keep them from subsiding. The lyrics tell us a lot, and they don’t have much of a filter when it comes to realism. Their purpose is to make us think, to feel, to fix into bundles in our heads, and when a band has the tools to make this happen, it’s admirable. Palisades haven’t lost their style either, as Reaching Hypercritical is their statement, their potent declaration to the people and the world.
The album begins with My Consequences. It’s a fast start, a volatile one. The vocals open softly until the electric guitars strike through. The band wants to be saved from the black doom. Your Misery dazzles with energy and a thumping guitar riff that develops and explodes. The lyrics tell us about how the misery can be intoxicating. Better opens slowly until the crushing riff begins to pulsate. The band wants to see the light. Fade Away is a calming song compared to previous tracks, though it still charms. The pain is unrelenting.
Palisades try to control their destiny here. The music is a sombre push for clarity and change too.
