Now More Than Ever – creatrix

All American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter sounds recharged on Creatrix, an album by his project, Now More Than Ever, and it’s not a record made for the sake of it, as it’s actually one of the most thrilling LPs the musician has been involved in. From the beginning, Ritter sounds rejuvenated and ready to take on his demons, pushing for a revolution while the music rises around him.

Throughout the album, the lyrics take centre stage, as Ritter bellows out these anecdotes which are cut to fit, which are drenched in melancholy, and are some of the most revealing lyrics he’s ever written. You’ll feel immersed in it all if you choose to descend into his world, his dark world where dreams are scarce and everything is festering. Ritter doesn’t hold back on this release either, but lashes the atmosphere with his rasping singing voice and the strength of a lion.

There are 9 songs on this album, and they’re fueled by adrenaline. Tragedy begins with piano sounds and subtle vocals from Ritter. The song eventually rises up and Ritter is in his element, with that guitar presence increasing the musicality. Heart To Heart takes us through a city that screeches in pain, and Ritter describes a runaway with bad intentions. The instrumentals heighten the volume, and the band is truly focused.

Heels Up+Head Over is a lyrical phenomenon. Ritter sings with intent and authority, fusing his voice with the technical riff. Love begins to fizzle out, and the world is shaking with all the humans who are stuck in disbelief.

Now More Than Ever has created a record which takes us all through the motions. Creatrix is a record that would fit in with the neon lights of a city battered around.
