I sit down with Virginia from Raw Pony to talk about the show.

TUNED UP: I notice you guys are releasing your 7-inch at this show, where did you guys record it?

Virginia: Galaxy 2474, aka Laura and Elijah’s basement. Elijah Vazquez did a killer job mixing it.

TUNED UP: What’s it called?

Virginia: This first one is self-titled.

TUNED UP: Is this the first official Raw Pony release since the Demo Tape dropped?

Virginia: It is.

TUNED UP: We’ve listened to the Sex Tide split with Bloody Show, what does everyone need to know about Sex Tide?

Virginia: Sex Tide is a trio begun by Aurelie Celine and Chad Shepard in 2011. It’s safe to say they’re one of our favorite bands in the scene. The most recent incarnation of the band is Aurelie on drums & vox, Christopher Corbin & Elijah Vazquez on guitars. They’ve got a great album called Flash Fuck (2013) that takes regular spins on my turntable. Their split tape with Bloody Show is excellent & they’re got a powerful live presence. I recommend standing right in front and letting the angst pound right out of you, or into you, depending on what you’re needing. They’ll be playing after Mike Rep on Saturday night.

TUNED UP:What can you tell us about Mike?

Virginia: Mike Rep Hummel is a Columbus institution who predates the lo-fi explosion of the 90’s by almost 20 years. He has collaborated with so many luminary musicians in various groups that it’s far too long to list here. (the Quotas, True Believers, Ego Summit, Great Plains, Last Call)

He’s done a lot as engineer and producer for other local groups as well (Guinea Worms, Sundown, Mount Carmel, Nudge Squidfish, Tommy Jay). Currently he has a new group Mike Rep and Last Call. This Saturday he’ll be playing solo at the Dude Locker to open up the show. This shit is not to be missed.

TUNED UP: And Nots is headlining.

Virginia: Yeah, Nots are a great band, very driven, wild, dark punk. I saw them at Gonerfest in Memphis last year and they blew me away live. They just put out a new 7′ in June called “Virgin Mary”.
