News: Petal Crush Releases New album

Petal Crush (Andy Petrusky) a new indie artist just released his new EP Lucky Ever After. On September 20th he released a single of the EP titled “Playing Dead.” He coincided the release of the song with a great video to go along. The video shows him nearly buried in the woods like a murder victim. Something that I noted about his video is that it didn’t get enough traffic or attention for being such good quality.

Apparently, Andy Petrusky left a career as a professional tennis player about a decade ago. He was actually recording music during his tennis career. “I moved to New York to be closer to whatever the music scene was there as I was drawn to the early 2000s indie/rock type of influence that occurred there, I really romanticized that era.” Andy started using the name Petal Crush to honor his brother who came up with the artist name but sadly passed away. Him and his brother would play music together but never really made a band or played shows out and about together. “I would show him a riff and he would take the guitar and play it better”

“I played drums for a band first and as just happy to play shows and be apart of something. I didn’t really consider putting something out for myself until around 2014”. He released his debut album titled Electrica in 2016 and followed it up with an EP titled Look Out Sister in 2019. He just released a new EP titled Lucky Ever After.

To key you into his personal life for the last two years. Petrusky became a father for the first time. Sometimes you can see his son in her artist photos! He began the year with the gift of fatherhood but closed out the year having an emergency appendectomy. He was dealing with those things on top of living through the pandemic just like the rest of us.

The EP was co-produced Ayad Al Adhamy, who’s worked with the likes of Passion Pit and Team Spirit. The EP opener “Gonna Need It Now,”  is a piano-driven anthem, which is much different from his previous work. Petal Crush is know for fuzzed-out guitar and rock and roll. The title track is about moving to New York in your early 20s (I’m jealous).

Growing up with these albums means being a particular age, and the songs on Playing Dead, also co-produced by Craig Almquist (Cold Fronts), speak to millennial malaise. While they have appeal for all ages, “Of Course Of Course” and “Lucky Ever After” hint at a specific burnout.
