MSMFest Day 1: And So It Begins!

By: Chris McLafferty

Today marks the kickoff of MSMFest in Morristown, Indiana! Check out our preview of the 50 bands coming in from out state. This weekend is going to be insanity that won’t soon leave you. Everyday the bill is stacked with amazing talent spread across 127 bands, 15 states and a wide variety of different genres. Each day we’ll do our best to keep you up to date with any news and changes, the daily schedule and more.

News: As is with all Festivals, unfortunately there were some drops. It happens. Especially a festival where music isn’t their main or only source of income for most acts. That’s what makes something like this so incredibly special. Some bands are traveling close to a 1,000 miles to be here and play for you, make sure you give it their all during every set, it doesn’t matter if you’re the only one in the crowd, make it feel like they’re closing Woodstock. These bands spend so many hours behind the scenes, practicing, writing, perfectly timing that uniformed dance, its important we respect every single second of their time.

Today unfortunately we lose:10450036_328218980691090_8003905821870899707_o (1)

My Journey

There’s going to be so many great bands but you can only do so much. As much as I would love to be everywhere I’ve yet to Hermine Granger and figure out how to do that so here’s where the Muggle that I am, will be…though this will probably crazily change.

Starting things right with the kickoff band, Year Older, gotta be there from the start! Then heading to check Archives who I’ve heard nothing but great things from respected individuals in the the Indy scene, when Kevin Kirk, Conner Jones and Steven Hendrickson like your band…you’re doing something right. Brooks the Prophet did a remix of the Arctic Monkeys’ “Arabella,” there is no way in hell I’m missing that set. Then off to enjoy the amazing fretwork of Anna Sage. A dilemma emerges following  that, of a band I’ve seen before and puts on one hell of a show in I Will Define or explore a new intriguing band I’ve only heard two songs from in Approaching the Unreal and….STRINGS! And then…and then, and then, and then, Brother O’ Brother for some blues rock amazement. Seriously these guys are killing it! So pumped! Followed by familiar faces Hearts Like Hell then off to explore the new world in fresh bands Black Cat Rebellion, Eight Days from December, Edhoculi and Bungler with some EJAAZ on top. Sirius Black’s set will give me some chill time, after the ska of Survay Says and excitement of Fossil Youth takes whatever I have left, to refresh me for the dance battle of the ages. The night closes with Automagik facing off Injecting Strangers in what is already being heralded as the greatest Game of Tones War ever! That’s my day but I urge you to choose your own adventure!
