Meditations on Crime has just released their collaborative new album and art book. Strewing together a collection of musical collaborations, Harper Simon produces this multimedia project with help from Julia Holter, Cole Alexander of Black Lips, Jennifer Herrema of Royal Trux, King Khan, Animal Collective’s Geologist + Sun Ra Arkestra. A trailer created by Jonah Freeman and Harper Simon, narrated by Katherine Waterston is released in honor of the announcement, alongside a visualizer for “Crime Seed” By Gang Gang Dance.

Simon brings forth an exciting and extensive contribution to the legacy with Meditations on Crime. He discusses his distinct and elaborative take on making music. “Everyone is fascinated by crime. When you look at the history of song, romantic love songs may be the dominant mode of songwriting, but second would probably be songs involving crime—murder ballads, political protest songs; crime is a major theme in all songwriting.”

By exploring other outlets in the creative sphere, Simon has been able to create and expand his dream of The Meditations on Crime which was birthed in 2016. Delving into the political sphere and engaging with musicians he admired, he has put together a project that unites multiple facets. “This project allowed me to explore different worlds other than the music world,” he says. “To have different platforms for different audiences, and to do a whole bunch of things that people don’t normally do when they make an album.”
