Indigo De Souza – All of This Will End

Indigo De Souza is a singer-songwriter based in Asheville, North Carolina. Her music blends elements of indie rock, punk, folk, and pop to create a unique sound that is both introspective and energetic. De Souza’s raw and emotive vocals paired with lyrics about self-discovery, relationships, and mental health catch people’s attention.

Her instrumentation varies from stripped-down acoustic guitar to more complex and layered songs that incorporate elements of experimental music. Her sound has been described as a combination of vulnerability and power. Overall, her music is a captivating and authentic reflection of her personal experiences and emotions.

The album opens up with “Time Back” it’s about moving forward and leaving struggles behind, with lyrics expressing a desire to move on and a sense of weariness with crying. A song that initially appears to be a pop song but unfolds into a mess of sounds. “While I was writing about the time when my music first started to take shape, it was also the worst time in my life and the most unstable I’d ever been,” she says. “I wrote this song paying homage to a younger self that didn’t know any better. I was flailing through life, trying to make something stick, and coming to terms with being on earth.”

Indigo says “You Can Be Mean” is “about a brief toxic experience I had with a manipulative and abusive L.A. model fuckboy. However brief, it had a life-long impact on my understanding of self”. She had a history of putting up with relationships where people treated her poorly, but this should be the last.

Losing” is layered vintage synth sounds are at the heart of this song, it has a catchy pop melody in the chorus.

“Wasting Your Time”is an energetic rock and roll song from the jump, with crunchy guitars and hard-hitting drums. De Souza’s unique production style still shines through.

Parking Lot”my favorite lyric in this song is “I’m not sure what is wrong with me but It’s probably just hard to be a person feeling anything”. This song is about how she’s feeling on her way into work, in the parking lot of something like a grocery store.

“All of This Will End”, this phrase has become a personal motto for Indigo. The title track is filled pain and sadness, but there’s a spirit of resilience throughout.

“Smog” is about an emotional state, a cross between delirious joy and hopelessness. Everything felt unknown and distant. “It’s mostly about that strange time and how it felt in my house, alone,” De Souza says. It brings the exhilaration that comes from breaking out of daily monotony.

“The Water”, with a vintage drum machine and synths this song combines a lot of unique electronic sounds with live trumpets.

“Always” excavates her relationship with her father, who wasn’t very present in her life. in an explosive alternative rock song.

In Not My Body” what stands out on this track is the addition of the steel guitar paired with layers of rock guitars.

The last track “Younger & Dumber “is a reflection on the loss of the joys of adolescence that are often overlooked or taken for granted. She looks back on this time with a sense of nostalgia and introspection, recognizing the naivety and lack of experience that accompanied her youth.

In the past, her life felt chaotic, but now she has an incredible community and lives in a place she loves. Indigo has recently found inspiration in stability and community, surrounded by amazing people who value deep connections and joy. These themes have helped to bring a sense of centeredness to her music. “[In this album] I was finally able to trust myself fully,” says Indigo De Souza of making her third album.

Indigo finds recent inspiration from community and stability. “Up until recently, my life felt chaotic,” she says. “Now, so much of the chaos is behind me. I have an incredible community, I love where I live, and I’m surrounded by truly incredible people who are dedicated to deep connection and joy. My music feels like it’s coming from a centered place of reflection.”

All of This Will End represents a new era for her that is warmer than before. The album is a statement about boldly stepping forward from the past into a present filled with gratitude. She’s embracing every moment along the way, and embodying a mindset of loving awareness. The album reflects a sense of growth and acceptance of the challenges and experiences that have led to this point, with a focus on moving forward with courage and an open heart.
