hot milk – the king and queen of gasoline

Hot Milk knows how to create thought-provoking songs which dazzle but also rage and hit the against the grain. Lyrically, we’re offered treats that describe heartbreak, broken solace, eventful moments, and upheavals. The band has upped their game on this EP too, and the hooks are infectious, to say the least.

Infectious hooks alone won’t get you anywhere in the music industry, but Hot Milk actually embed enough substance into their craft. Their knowhow is remarkable also, and the way they present their songs, with that poppy undercurrent, is admirable.

The King And Queen Of Gasoline reaches new heights for Hot Milk. It’s an EP of generosity as the band place all their technical abilities into it, and they don’t leave any of their spirit out. Some songs are loud, some are subtle inclusions, but they all pack a punch.

The band are extremely talented lyricists. The poetry sparks truth, and the stories have been fuelled by anger and sorrow. The band isn’t cheered up either, and their music conveys, in all its glory, struggle. The EP starts with The King And Queen Of Gasoline. It’s peaks with the lyrical forays and the empowering guitar riff. The words are venomous, and the song portrays broken hope.

I Fell In Love With Someone I Shouldn’t Have is a poppy charm. Though it has these elements; it does sound grungy, and the rock influence is fully embedded. The Secret Of Saying Goodbye starts like an epic film score. It has those poppy sounds merged in with a dash of rock. It’s a song about love gone sour.

Chloroform/Nightmares forms as a ballad, a swan song of desperation. It’s a brilliant ending to an eventful EP, and a true standout. The vocals are serene here, and the numbness is evident.

Hot Milk delivers a purposeful EP, and it is their best work to date.
