Courtney From Work are indeed a band on the rise. If you have not witnessed this band live, then you have not lived. They recently just released a full-length album, Wonderful, and it is everything a rock album should be. If you like your rock to be dirty, loud, fast, and fun—then this indeed is a band you should not miss at this year’s Gnarbeque.
TUNED UP: What attracted your band to this festival?
Courtney From Work: We just knew it was kind of a big deal around here, so it was kind of a bucket list thing for us, and thanks to Zach Barnes we were finally able to cross it off! Andrew and I also went last year and had a blast, so we wanted to be a part of the festivities this time around.
Are you guys working on anything at the moment?
We actually just released our first album titled Wonderful, so for now we’re taking a little break from writing to play shows in support of it! Also go listen to it if you haven’t heard it yet—or again if you have.
What is your favorite summertime drink?
Jacob: Nestle Splash Açaí Grape Water. I drink that year round, but it sure does hit the spot in the summer.
Conner: Tequeek (tequila)
Favorite summer activity?
Jacob: Rocking and rolling. Also something I like to do year round, but its best in the summer.
Conner: Playing shows!
Colin: Going on down to the Splash Zone for a good swim.
What makes a good summer song/album?
Jacob: If you can make anything sound like Oasis’ Definitely Maybe or What’s The Story?, it’s perfect for the summertime.
Colin: A chorus that you and your pals can sing along to.
Do you have a favorite festival?
Jacob: I haven’t been to too many festivals in my time, but I’d say this one and Comfest are my favorites as far as local band fests go.
Conner: Melted.
Colin: It used to be Rock on the Range. Not so sure about Sonic Temple.
If you could have your own festival, what would it be called and who would play the first year?
Jacob: It would be called Wonderfest, and I would have my favorite local bands play during the day and top the night off with The Strokes, Foo Fighters, and of course us.
Colin: Mine would be called CheeseFest, and it would feature all of the best pop punk bands in the world. Complimentary string cheese all weekend.
Conner: I’d call mine Free Beer and have bands like Ty Segall, Wavves, Twin Peaks, and other underrated rock groups.
What is one thing you enjoy about the summer?
Jacob: Being outside, going to fun events like these, drinking brews, and hangin’ out with my friends.
Conner: Warm weather and positive vibes.
Colin: Warm weather and the beach!
What are your thoughts on socks with sandals?
Jacob: Shoobies.
Conner: I’d vote flip flops or bare feet. I can’t do the flop sock.
If you had to pick one thing that makes summers awesome in Columbus, what would it be?
Jacob: This shit!
Conner: Comfest!
