I dig the lyrically content and the twist in vibes from their typical composition. I know they normally do there own artwork too. Not sure if they did their own artwork this time but I really dig it. Very dreamy;). I don’t see it as a radio “single” but I definitely think its a cool album track that I’d enjoy listening to.” – Jared Condon, Graceful Closure
“Daft Coldplay” – Trent Hagans
“Based on the push of alternative music in the top 40 I think this song will do really well. I love it! Coldplay has always been at the front of the curve in progressive music and this is no exception.” – Jeremiah Claudio, Oceanspeak.
“Garbage. Their past two records have been pop/mainstream trash. And I don’t even know if that does a good enough job describing it because everything’s been so bad after viva la vida I just don’t know what to say half that time. It’s cool that they wanted to expand on their music and see what else they could do but for me (LOVING Coldplay from Parachutes to X&Y) they just went in the complete wrong direction. The song writin is basic. They just taken a lot of elements away that made Coldplay who they were in the first place. The song writing is basic structures, and maybe it’s good when it’s the raw idea but what ever they do after that is just god awful. This is something they would play to soccer moms in target and Walmart.. Good job Coldplay. You disappointed me for what is hopefully the last time.” – Corey Dickerson, The Cordial Sins
“I love it! Still has the classic Coldplay epic guitar leads & Chris Martin loveliness vocally, but has much more of a hook to the melody than usual which I am very excited about. Though it could be considered top 40, thank goodness for interesting musicianship + fun it portrays without being cheesy.” – Heather Evans, songwriter
“Cool vibe, but is a little too easy to ignore. The repetitive nature mixed with Chris Martin’s relaxed vocal vibe lets the song drift into the background a little too easily. That being said I expect it will be a hit and expect to hear it in the background of bookstores and coffee shops worldwide.” – Andrew Jones, Checkered Owl Media
“This song just makes me (along with the recent releases) stick my head in the sand and keep listening to old Coldplay, wishing they were still what made them great. There’s no emotion like what you hear on their great songs (Fix You, etc.). It just sounds like they are now primarily writing pop, formulaic top-40. That being said, it will do very well on the radio.
All in all, it’s disappointing for me to see such a great band devolve into a maroon 5 sound-alike.” – David Appelt
“I honestly love it. It’s not the old Coldplay, but that’s ok. Evolution is necessary.” – Andrew Weber
“Coldplay is not about any particular style or sound. Coldplay is about hooks, and this song is classic Coldplay in that regard. It’ll be in my head for weeks.” – Ben Taylor, Last of the Wildmen
“So freaking awesome.” – Ben Trussell, Comrades
“At least they are trying new (or old if you count disco/funk) things rather than gravitating to just one genre with each album. I think each consecutive Coldplay album has been a slightly different step for the band even though the majority of it sounds the “same”. With this track (don’t know how the rest of album will sound) I think the band is really stretching themselves. I say kudos to them, you can’t make the same album multiple times and get away with it unless you’re a punk band or U2 lol. Does anyone else get a hint of Daft Punk “Get Lucky” on this song?” – Brandon Jones, IVM
” I hope this is just a first single to remind everyone about Coldplay, before they release some epic hits. Though, I’m sure this song will be a great addition to their live show.” Bob Dawson, Teen Fiction
“Interesting use of electric guitar lead. Doesn’t sound like your standard Coldplay vibe. The beat is also very dance-y as well, but I suppose that fits in line with the Viva La Vida progression. Chris Martin’s Voice is like the bridge between eras. Makes you think about how it would be if your band got huge right after college and you had a multi-decade career after then. You’d definitely have creative pivots along the way.
I think its a good move for them, its a lot better than their sad poorly-aged debut. It’s like a milder Maroon 5, or a Daft Punk homage, or a Junior Senior vibe, with some trappings of the Major Lazer vibe.” – Sandeep Sehbi, TIGR HORS, DC Kids
“I feel like they’ve lost the elements that made them good in their beginning. This sounds like it was written and produced by Beyonce’s team of writers and producers. I was really into their first couple albums way back when. They had emotion, melody, hooks, and some amazing vocals. They made something special back then, Something real. But this sounds like they put 0 thought, emotion, or feeling into it. It seems to be just an effort to make a buck rather than a funnel to deal with life experiences like love, loss, death, or happiness. In short “it sucks”” – Dave Ramsey, Midnight Animal Choir
