This is a punchy album, and one which gravitates towards the emotions. This band that has designed the record showcases their vulnerabilities and fears, and their music has enabled them to let the world know that they’re not fully happy or ready to be completely compelled by hope. Their sound is pessimistic. There’s no doubting that, but it has its moments when everything seems thrilling.
And I Can’t Breathe Enough is a collection of atmospheric songs, not blistering in their execution but soothing, even though the lyrics bite down heavily as they come into the frame. Not only do Cosmopaark play to strengths here, they also commit to the written word, exploring and connecting strands of poetic fever, and when it hits, it’s rich and revealing.
Concrete Plans opens the record with a strum, a riff, and soothing vocals. The instrumentals aren’t volatile, but calmly implemented. It’s a subtle offering that rises somewhat at the middle point. Far starts differently, with a contrasting sound, and the vocals measure up well. There’s not much here in terms of lyricism, but the sound taps into so many styles.
Can’t Wait is louder, and it shows the electric guitar in all its glory. The vocals are more apparent here, as well as those melancholic lyrics. It’s a song structured to open eyes and minds, and the band has done so well to commit to being thought-provoking.
Cosmopaark edge closer to their preferred dreams, even when the hurt stings, and the world keeps getting darker.
