Review by Jamarr Stokes

For over 20 years, Skully’s Music Diner has been the host to some of the biggest names in music, and on March 27th, it was no different, as 7 amazing bands took its legendary stage.

Carev Dvor from Columbus was the first band to take the stage and they pulled no punches, bringing to the table some very heavy stuff. The vocalist’s screams were absolutely amazing, They played a really good set overall. They do have an EP coming soon also, so be on the lookout for that!

The second band was Amative from Columbus. These guys brought a slightly different sound than Carev, adding some synth in their music, making for some very intense sounds. They sounded great, with every song almost building from the last. These guys are bound for bigger things. They did have some technical difficulties during one song, but they recovered great and put on a great show. They have an EP already out and are working on another, as they discussed in the interview I did with them.

The next band to take the stage was Fixed in Color from Westerville. It was their first show, and despite that, the crowd was really excited for them. They had more of a pop-punk sound, and I think it works for them. Decent set overall.

The last “local” band to go on was Live My Last from Columbus. They have more of a poppy rock sound, and combined with Justin (the lead singer)’s eccentric attire for the night, they really got the crowd into a frenzy. These guys were wild, lots of crowd diving, and Justin even wrote the setlist on his chest. They just released an album called Convictions, so check that out!

A surprise performance from Affiance took place next, but due to time constraints only played 3 songs. It didn’t matter to them because they still brought it. The crowd was into everything, and there was no lack of energy here. A great set from a great band.

Sirens & Sailors was up next, and if it hadn’t been for Memphis May Fire, I’d say most people came out to see them. I’d never heard them before this show and I was plesantly surprised at how musically gifted they all were. Every song had the crowd moshing and moving, which is something I’ll be saying again about MMF. Great stuff here and a great set.

The headline band, Memphis May Fire was on last here. You could see the excitement and anticipation build in the crowd as they started setting up. Their set was awesome, Mattie and everyone were on point, hitting every note, chord, and drum solo just right. It made everything better that the sound in the venue was impeccable, almost perfect. They did play a few extra songs afterword. Great set!

Overall, a fantastic night of music from all the bands and the city in general, as there were some other big-name bands right down the street from this show. Be sure to check out all these bands and please, support local music.
