Concert Photography: Citizen & Turnover at Skully’s

Words and photos by Michael Buchsieb

The closing night of this co-headlining tour certainly went out with a bang. Opening the night was English Punk band Milk Teeth, on their first ever US tour and a highly energetic and loud set. Shortly after Sorority Noise took the stage. Sorority Noise was always a band I had heard of, but never really took the time to listen. They are an extremely talented band with very emotional and real music, also, their guitar player absolutely shreds, check them out.

Next was Turnover, and boy was I excited for them. Peripheral Vision has been an album that I have played probably (at least) twice a week since the fall when I first heard the album. A mellow stage presence, but an incredible performance from Turnover was my favorite part of the night, closing their set with my favorite by them “Cutting My Fingers Off”, I was tempted to put my gear away and jump into the crowd.

The final act of the night was Citizen, hailing from Michigan, but greeting the crowd with a warmly welcomed “OH-!” Citizen played a fantastic set, with songs mainly from their albums Youth and Everybody Is Going To Heaven. Closing the night was an encore of “The Night I Drove Alone”.

Though it may have been the last night of the tour, it surely felt like a fully concert experience, with each band really playing their hearts out on stage, leaving me a very happy concert-goer (and photog)
