Been awhile since I’ve mentioned any bands coming down the pipe I thought fans should be aware of, but after attending a show last night (review coming soon to VINYL) I thought it was time to break the dry spell.
Sainthood Reps is a relatively unknown band from Long Island, NY who last year became one of the newest signees to Tooth and Nail Records. Their sound is somewhat reminiscent of early Showbread or mewithoutYou, with a bit more edginess thrown in. The band sounds great live, having a talented pair of vocalists. They have one record, Monoculture out currently on Tooth and Nail which I plan on digesting very soon. Below is a video of them performing “Animal Glue.”
[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbjIvfVzTx4]The End of the Ocean is an instrumental post-rock group based out of Columbus, OH. Well-placed pre-recorded dialogue sets the mood for each song, especially in a live setting. Musicianship is strong, and the band was endorsed by O’brother and personally to me by Junius’ bass player Joel, so you know that’s true. Their sound reminds me a bit of Unwed Sailor, one of the openers I caught on the All Things Bright and Beautiful Tour with Owl City and Mat Kearney last summer. They plan on touring much of the West Coast of the US in the remainder of 2012, in a tour that’s largely self-booked. Not many local groups start out with so much ambition, so they are worth keeping an eye on.
