There are only 4 songs on the EP, but they all have a melancholic twist. Punk band Broadway Calls, aim for validation on Coming After You, and they look to the skies for an optimistic glimmer of hope. Their style is straight-up too, and their music offers punk fans a chance to break away from the norm. They’ve also been a band for a while, crafting sounds that catch the attention, even when the darkness impedes.
Every moment is loud here, and the band tells us tales of inner strife, broken memories and the challenges they face. Often, punk has this 3-chord template, with lyrics that can be hollow and smashed together for the sake of it, but this band have created words which resonate.
These 4 songs offer melodies and harmonies often secluded from punk. The percussion is on point, the guitar moments are a catchy gift, structured to keep the music interesting, and as mentioned, the lyrics are story-driven.
Coming After You starts the EP in style. Those well-crafted riffs gain a burgeoning pace, and the lyrics tell us that the band have lost their way. They want to power on, but love commits to sadness. A Little Shake opens again with a riff that comes from the top. The vocals come in, and there’s a technical spin. The world is crumbling around them, and they want to fix their derailing lives, though music is an antidote.
Dead Before I Hit The Ground is another stellar riff infused banger. The band is in their element here, and the ghosts swirl around their fantasies. The chorus is memorable.
Broadway Calls is a talented punk band, with a lot to say, and music that offers energy.
