Audiofeed 2019 preview: Gold Frankincense & Myrrh

By Ryan G

I’m not sure how to intro this preview, so I’ll just write the first thing that comes to mind. I think it is so so cool that a band has the opportunity to play both an event like Audiofeed and Insane Clown Posse’s Gathering of the Juggalos. Now, that’s what I call a crossover act!

The crossover appeal of Gold Frankincense & Myrrh is a testament to their growth and momentum. Their sound is generally a stirring one, as well. They call themselves “beautycore;” what is that? Listen to their new EP, and the answer will be self-evident.

Listening to this band gives me the summer rock-and-roll feeling I received while listening to Christian rock compilations when I was a teenager. Given that GFM aren’t that far removed from that age group (I should rephrase the ‘cocktail’ question in the future, sorry gals!), it would make sense that they can tap into that feeling. Some things are timeless, and that feeling is one of them.

There’s an alt rock all-girl trio called The Aces that is making waves right now. Could GFM be the band that does for hard rock what The Aces are doing for indie rock?

Join us and get to know them at Audiofeed this year! We asked them a few questions, which they graciously answered.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Maggie: Rocky Road/Pistachio

LuLu: Cookie Dough/Superman

CJ: Strawberry

If your band was a cocktail, what would it be?

Shrimp cocktail because we’re underage and don’t condone drinking lol.

What’s a memorable live show you’ve played? Why?

Loud & Proud Fest 2018 or the House of Blues Orlando show we just played. They were some of the biggest shows we’ve played, and the crowd was screaming all of our words.

What music has really impacted you this year? Why?

The new A Day To Remember x Marshmello collab was an inspiring recent release. We are always on the lookout for artists that take two separate genres and combine them to make a great song.

What books or films have impacted you in the past year? Why?

Maggie: I’ve recently been watching some people on youtube who speak about their chronic illnesses. It’s been really eye-opening in showing me how blessed I am, but also that those people live normal lives as well.

LuLu: Detective Pikachu made me realize the need for Pokemon in the real world.

What is your one weird thing you never tour without?

Portable squatty potty and animal crackers.

What is that don’t miss spot in your hometown?

Moondog Pie House, Regal Cinemas Avenues 20 & RPX, and Rosy’s Mexican Restaurant

Besides Audiofeed, what is a don’t miss festival?

Loud & Proud Fest in Germany and Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin

What is the most exciting thing happening in your world right now?

Planning for the future and all the opportunities that God has brought into our lives. We’re starting to really see a buzz forming around us as GFM, and it’s really incredible to see the snowball effect really speeding up.
