Audiofeed 2016 preview: Until We Have Faces

By Ryan G

As I read some of the comments on the Facebook page of Until We Have Faces (undoubtedly inspired by the C.S. Lewis novel) I couldn’t help but develop a liking for them before I even heard the music. They respond to haters by trolling them right back, albeit in a tongue-in-cheek, lighthearted way.

I think you’ll find that this female fronted metal band really knows their stuff. I definitely hear a bit of Torche in this band’s music and could even picture them playing alongside some of the louder shoegaze bands like Nothing and Whirr. Actually, Torche and Nothing toured together so there you go.

The music, in addition to being loud, has a bit of swagger to it not often heard in metal. I hope you’ll listen as you read Until We Have Faces’ rendition of the Tuned Up Audiofeed Q&A:

Who would play your ideal festival and where would it be?

Cornerstone was always our ideal and we can’t wait to continue at Audiofeed. We’d love nothing more than to continue to share the stage with bands like Sleeping Giant, Impending Doom, My Epic, and Silent Planet.

What is your favorite music released this year thus far? What are you looking forward to?

This past year’s been amazing for albums! Bayside, Jason Isbell, My Epic, Chelsea Wolfe, Silent Planet, Baroness, mewithoutYou, Deafheaven, Torche, David Bowie! What a good year!

What summer movie are you most looking forward to?

Is Beetlejuice coming out soon?

Assume I know NOTHING about your band. In one sentence, why should I listen to you?

UWHF makes heavy music that sounds new but familiar at the same time, and talks about things that Christians don’t like to talk about.

Who on the Audiofeed lineup are you most stoked about this year and why?

We’ve always loved Emery and Bad Christian, and it’ll be great to see Dan Smith and Flatfoot [56] again.

If your band had a mission statement, what would it say?

We hope to affect the people who are open to hearing what we play in a positive way. We strive to be honest with ourselves and vulnerable to others about our own shortcomings and weaknesses. We’re a band trying to learn to accept Grace and love, and we want to take anyone willing to listen on that journey with us.

What band from your area do more people need to hear? That most Audiofeed attendees (and beyond) would not have heard of.

Save us from the Archon and Cruces are both making incredible music in the heart of pittsburgh.

What song do you hear and you immediately think “Summer!”?

Ooo. That’s hard. I don’t know about songs, but lots of Emery, Bayside, Torche, and Tragedy.

What is something you’ve been learning on your life or faith journey lately?

You can’t wear your weaknesses as strengths. If there are things in your life that trigger you, try to work past them and fortify yourself–don’t make your loved ones tip-top around. Give your burdens to Christ.
