There’s not much we can say about Many Rooms, the sad ambient alter-ego of Bri Hunt, that we haven’t already.
I once offered an idea that Many Rooms should open for Julien Baker in Columbus, and I heard later on that Bri vetoed that idea on account of there being too much sad music in one evening if that were to be the case. Granted, this idea happened when I was in my discovery phase of each artist – I realize she’s right.
Many Rooms experienced live is something that makes the audience go silent. Her banter between songs isn’t overly lighthearted or sad – it’s just genuine and matter of fact. Down to earth, even. Friends have told me after hearing her set for the first time that they weren’t prepared for the heaviness of the songs but that they enjoyed it.
Many Rooms plays the Arkansas Stage this year at Audiofeed. Expect an interesting juxtaposition of sad ambient guitar music with the bright sounds of daylight and festivities floating in from outside. In a way, a metaphor for her music – sad but not closed to optimism. Get to know Bri a bit more below:
Tuned Up: Who would play your ideal festival and where would it be?
Bri Hunt: In a perfect world I would get to see As Cities Burn, The Chariot, Emery, All Get Out, and From Indian Lakes all in my back yard. The 15 year old in me would have a heart attack.
What is your favorite music released this year thus far? What are you looking forward to?
The Hotelier’s “Goodness” was released recently and I’m 100% certain it’ll be on my AOTY list. Also I’ve been waiting what seems like a lifetime for that new Frank Ocean record to drop.
What summer movie are you most looking forward to?
Me Before You, because I am a weak sucker for romance
Assume I know NOTHING about your band. In one sentence, why should I listen to you?
Because I try to be as honest as I can, and if someone was able to hear that and relate, then I’ll have done something good
Who on the Audiofeed lineup are you most stoked about this year and why?
Emery, because teenage nostalgia and stage dives.
If your band had a mission statement, what would it say?
“I believe that art could not exist without vulnerability, nor music without community. Only when those ideals become obsolete to me will I stop writing.”
What band from your area do more people need to hear? That most Audiofeed attendees (and beyond) would not have heard of.
They’re not really from my area, but Sinai Vessel is an incredible band and I’m honestly shocked that they’re not bigger.
What song do you hear and you immediately think “Summer!”?
Any song in From Indian Lakes’ Able Bodies.
What is something you’ve been learning on your life or faith journey lately?
That anger and retaliation only leads to more anger and retaliation. Change only happens when I put others before myself and learn to love and forgive, even if I think some don’t deserve it.
