Kevin Schlereth is perhaps the most prolific touring artist I know. He and his family are nomads, having all but abandoned their home state of Kansas in favor of the open road and people’s living rooms across North America.
Kevin can usually be seen performing in a ball cap and red swim trunks – a mild quirk that has added an endearing element to his passionate, raw music. He often eschews a mic when in a club or bar setting, instead choosing to have concert goers surround him in a circle. Just recently, friends of his Fallon Brady and Jay Costlow have joined his live show, bringing a multidimensional element to the set.
Kevin is putting out a new record this year. Shortly after Kanye announced The Life of Pablo, Kevin mentioned that he would title his next record SWISH, since that was rejected by Yeezy. I thought that was in jest, but he seems serious about going with that! I’m stoked for the tunes, because I’m always happy to hear new stuff from people that are great to hang out with.
Get to know Kevin a little more below. Don’t miss him at Audiofeed!
Tuned Up: Who would play your ideal festival and where would it be?
Kevin Schlereth: All of my friends would play. So basically Audiofeed. I guess I would move it to Arches national park, that place is amazing.
What is your favorite music released this year thus far?
That is tough. In this instant, I would say it is a toss-up between Keyoung’s Illogical Rest and TLOP (The Life of Pablo).
What are you looking forward to?
I am really interested to hear the new Self Proclaimed Narcissist album!
What summer movie are you most looking forward to?
I generally have no interest in movies.
Assume I know NOTHING about your band. In one sentence, why should I listen to you?
Because honest, thoughtful music is worth a listen.
Who on the Audiofeed lineup are you most stoked about this year and why?
Another impossible question… probably Comrades. They are insane and I haven’t had a chance to hear the new stuff live yet.
If your band had a mission statement, what would it say?
To bring glory to God and illumination to His character.
What band from your area do more people need to hear? That most Audiofeed attendees (and beyond) would not have heard of.
I don’t really have an area persay, but Families from Chicago, IL is the one band that I wish everyone knew.
What song do you hear and you immediate think “Summer!”?
Probably “Summer” by Families. Haha. That or “Call Me Maybe.”
What is something you’ve been learning on your life or faith journey lately?
I’ve been learning that being known by God is the singular thing of importance.
