If I had to sum up this band that hails from the west coast in one word it would be this: whimsical.
Hushpad have played Cornerstone in years past, and been present at most Audiofeeds thus far. The humble band makes a quirky sort of alternative pop that is grounded and not too much like the popular counterparts within the genre.
The group has been known to be versatile in their live performances, and we’ll probably get a taste of that at Audiofeed this week. The band plans multiple performances, including a time closing the week at a late night Radon Lounge set. It should be a chance to end the week in contemplation.
Get to know the band a bit more below and check out the video for “Tilt.”
Tuned Up: Who would play your ideal festival and where would it be?
Hushpad: The festival would be at a farm with horses. the bands that played would all be bands I never heard of that were awesome.
What is your favorite music released this year thus far? What are you looking forward to?
The new Charles Bradley record…and the new Field Music. both are amazing. I am looking forward to the new hushpad record that comes out later this month.
What summer movie are you most looking forward to?
The new Star Wars movie.
Assume I know NOTHING about your band. In one sentence, why should I listen to you?
I don’t know if you should listen to my band. We would like it if you did though.
Who on the Audiofeed lineup are you most stoked about this year and why?
Timbre and Zoo. both are great artists who write amazing songs and they are also lovely people.
If your band had a mission statement, what would it say?
A mission statement, hmmm…I don’t think we need one of those. we just try to make the best music we can and hope it speaks for itself.
What band from your area do more people need to hear? That most Audiofeed attendees (and beyond) would not have heard of.
Young Eyes. World class band.
What song do you hear and you immediately think “Summer!”?
“Summer of love” by the B52s. Killer song.
What is something you’ve been learning on your life or faith journey lately?
I genuinely try to always be learning. lately I have been learning a lot about letting go of ideas that hold me back as a person. be they about myself or others. learning to think in a more healthy and productive way. there is great joy to be found in being productive. making things you love and feel proud of is a very satisfying way to live your life. there are lots of people like myself who can’t wait to see what you come up with.
