There’s not much we can say about Harper that hasn’t already been said in previous write ups. But, we are really really looking forward to their Audiofeed set. In fact, next to Emery and Forrister, this band might have my most anticipated set of the weekend.
On a personal note, I’ve spent the past few years getting to know vocalist Matthew Penfound. He was the best man of a dude I used to be housemates with, and we also attended the same high school (although we missed each other by one year). He’s quite the dude to get to know. Always encouraging – and is a heckuva frontman too. One of my favorite Tuned Up shows I’ve ever done took place in the the Dinotopia house venue (RIP) – featuring Harper, Keyoung, Household, Comrades, Endeavor, and Eight Days From December. What a rager that was.
Word on the street is that Harper will have a surprise special guest performing live with them during a song this Audiofeed. I can’t wait.

The festival would be in San Diego, because we love San Diego.
The Audiofeed lineup this year is so good it makes it hard to answer this question with a different one. We love to play with bands that are friends, ones that we can relate too, bands with passion, and one’s that are up and coming. But for fun we’re going to mostly throw around some legends here (dead or alive)… Rage Against the Machine, Polyenso, La Dispute, Defeater, Underoath, ACB, ABR, Good Tiger, BTBAM, Mountains like Wax, Julien Baker, Ben Howard, Gregory Alan Isakov, Jose Gonzalez, Snarky Puppy, The Punch Brothers, No Dice, Pocket Science, Eight Days From December, The Chariot, Oh Sleeper, Haste the Day, Zao, alone., Phil Keaggy, Fever Fever, Gatherers, Muir, Caspian, Strawberry Girls, Chon, Lo Beggar, Phil Collins, Herbie Hancock, Earth, Stars of the Lid, Boards of Canada, Tycho, And So I Watch You From Afar, Turnover, 65daysofstatic, Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Guthrie Govan, The Contortionist, Animals as Leaders, Polyphia, The Fall of Troy, Brad Mehldau, Fu Manchu, Clutch, Surrogate, Deas Vail, Search The City, Hrvrd, From Indian Lakes, Deafheaven, Embracer, letlive, JGivens, James Blake, Incubus, Light Beam Rider, mewithoutYou, Moving Mountains, mutemath, Nirvana, PIanos Become the Teeth, DC Talk, B.I.G., Tupac, N.W.A., Oscar Peterson, Snowmine, PM Today, Violent Soho, Purity Ring, Portishead, Radiohead, Russian Circles, Silent Planet, Streetlight Manifesto, Zach Williams, and Jimi Hendrix (duh). SORRY WE TOOK THAT WAY TOO SERIOUSLY.
What is your favorite music released this year thus far? What are you looking forward to?
Polyenso – Pure in the Plastic
What summer movie are you most looking forward to?
As a band we’re regretfully casting our vote for Sausage Party.
Assume I know NOTHING about your band. In one sentence, why should I listen to you?
It’s honest and something different. At least we hope.
Who on the Audiofeed lineup are you most stoked about this year and why?
Poured Out, they’re super rad dudes and we haven’t seen them play yet. Also, Household, Timbre, Comrades, Forrister, Church Tongue, Listener, Emery, Prop, WATG, and Josh Garrels to name a few.
If your band had a mission statement, what would it say?
To promote hope and truth through honest music.
What band from your area do more people need to hear? That most Audiofeed attendees (and beyond) would not have heard of.
Sweetalker, Machaela Nesler, Olivar, Mountains Like Wax, Pale Lungs, and Pocket Science.
What song do you hear and you immediately think “Summer!”?
“Distraction” – Angels and Airwaves or “Stars” – Switchfoot
What is something you’ve been learning on your life or faith journey lately?
Jensen: I’ve been learning to live more on a day to day basis, because I’m realizing what I thought I wanted isn’t exactly what I needed. You can’t plan on where faith will take you.
Matthew: I feel that. I’ve had to revaluate myself and my faith on many levels this year, which has required more honesty and trust than I than I thought. Honesty is especially difficult, but valuable. It can be terrifying, but then learning to trust God through the process has been so liberating and peace giving. It’s gnarly.
