Adjy Due to Release New EP on 6/2

We’re quickly approaching two years since Adjy released The Idyll Opus (I-VI), and everyone has been eager for parts VII-XII to surface. It’s been a wait that has seen the band move from their label, introduce alternative funding methods, and play a couple tours. At long last, Adjy is set to release their newest material since 2021 – albeit perhaps differently than what you might expect.

June Songs Vol. 1 is a bit of a tangential project or another layer to the Idyll Opus cinematic universe. This collection of five songs sees lyrical and melodic motifs from both the album and its predecessor EP resurface. It’s still a summery, folksy group of tracks. But canonically, these are supposed to be songs from June’s band – and that means that they embody a bit more raw energy as they draw influences from pop-punk, alternative rock, and Top 40s in the era where guitar was still prevalent in popular music.

The songs are still undeniably Adjy: there’s banjo, gang vocals, auxiliary percussion, and time-loop lyrics, among other things. But the concept is certainly less hefty. This is intended as a bit of a light break from the gravity of the album project. There’s still plenty of variety between the songs, each with a distinct personality. But there’s a bit more of a youthful feeling at play, that of adolescent June convinced his band is going to make it big one day. There’s hope and energy and conviction at play, just in a slightly less cerebral package.

The new EP releases on 6/2 on Bandcamp and other streaming services. You can pre-order it now.
