A Place For Owls destroy the notion of being a normal band, as they write with vigour and a confidence that is rare. From the beginning of their record How We Dig In The Earth, spellbinding poetry becomes evident, and the act is masters of creating worlds within their music. Faces and places are explored, hope is dispelled, and the outfit hurt so much.
The album doesn’t crash into obscurity or needless plot-lines, as everything has been tightly woven, joyously put together even if the joy doesn’t last. Those guitar moments shudder too, and the band is in their element when they get to speak up and change perceptions.
Nothing is frantic, though the band delivers their thoughts and feelings without trepidation, rallying their actions and their art. It is the lyrics that will get you; they will steal your heart.
Go On starts the record off in a quiet space. There is are no rough edges here, and the vocals are serene, with an acoustic backdrop. It is a masterful beginning to an emo love-letter.
Huston Lake is an acoustic track triggering lost love. The themes support the music well, and the poetry has been brilliantly interjected.
When Your Eyes Close opens with well-rounded instrumentals and subtle vocals. The song then rises and shows the band’s creative urgency.
What I Have To Say delivers heartfelt drama, and there is a lover on the horizon. Emo takes its stance here, as the band evolve in seconds.
A Place For Owls is a talented unit, looking for a shine in the darkness.
