aave: I don’t remember exactly how I found these guys, but they’re an aural concoction that is part visual experience, part shoegaze, and part ambient rock. I just had a gut feeling I was going to like them. Don’t you love it when gut feelings are right? This is a dreamier, darker version of From Indian Lakes that many indie rock fans ought to love. I’m sort of breaking my personal protocol in putting this band in my relevant discoveries section as bands with new singles usually end up in a single reviews article. But, I was planning on writing about these guys before I knew they had an imminent release so here we are. The band will release There’s Nothing via Rock Ridge Music on August 14th.

The band’s advertised sound that combines influences from Daughter and Sigur Ros had me quite intrigued. The UK based duo is still in the early stages of development, but several demos on their soundcloud profile show promise. A post rock structure that slowly progresses is a Sigur Ros hallmark that NONTA imitates as a form of flattery and not a form of plagiarism. Replace the airy vocals you can’t understand with something a little more raw that you can understand and you’ve basically got NONTA described in a nutshell, although I hope they don’t stay in a shell.
