Check out: Youth Lagoon

By Ryan G

A new find recently, based on a friend’s recommendation is Youth Lagoon, the one man project of Trevor Powers of Boise, Idaho.  I would describe the artist’s sound as a washed-out, lo-fi Sleeping at Last.  Some have described the music as sad, but I find it therapeutic.  It had the rare ability of capitaviting me on first listen enough to get through most of the record in one sitting.  Audiomilk.com has this to say about the artist:

Debut – Eight lush arrangements that travel through his nostalgia while capturing a deep sense of yearning. Powers channels vocal and at times musical tendencies to that of baroque-pop singer Chris Garneau as well Mike Hadreas of Perfume Genius, both claimed to be influences, but develops a sound that cuts much deeper.

Youth Lagoon is currently on tour with Young Magic, promoting it’s debut record “The Year of Hibernation.”
