Conquer Divide breaks conventions with their EP New Heaven, and they put their all into a creation which is dynamic and intense. From lift off, they tell us their worries and the state of their lives, the challenges of making it, and the hardships which cut into them. Lyrically, we’re given anecdotes that are dark, often eye-opening, and the band does not hold back at describing their fears head on.
The themes point at the despair the band feels on a daily basis. They feel faceless in the crowd, totally withdrawn from what it means to be fully alive. This intelligent record definitely puts them on the map though, and the act tries to rise above the decay and the corrosion, while playing their hearts out and putting their work into the faces of the people.
Musically it’s a diverse record. Those super-charged guitar riffs are expertly done, those melodies cut through the atmosphere, and the dramatics are on form. This shows the band’s vision, and while they reflect on their pain, the music still plays firm and fast, creating a bountiful sound.
New Heaven starts the EP. The vocal work has rhythm and bite, and when the instrumentals come, the pace rises. That chorus sparks excitement. The Invisible is a song about being faceless, totally pushed aside. Those guitar riffs offer a breakneck sound, and the drama unfolds quickly.
Paralyzed opens slowly, and the lyrics convey a broken person shuddering when they walk down a dead end road. The weight of consequence starts to crush the person in dire need. Those melodies add contrast, and the screams increase the intensity.
Conquer Divide has put so much into this EP, while everything stings and hurts.
