To get you hyped for the fest, Tuned Up will be spotlighting artists playing our specially curated stage, hopefully introducing you to your next favorite band.
Audiofeed Artist Spotlight-Hello Luna
Columbus Ohio’s pop-rock outfit Hello Luna is set to make their Audiofeed debut and couldn’t be more excited. Not content to settle down after releasing last year’s banger Into Static, the band has more music on the horizon as well as some long overdue touring. Vocalist Kenzie Coyne sat down with me for a quick interview to help YOU get to know this powerhouse band.
Describe Hello Luna in 5 words:
Our mission statement is actually five words long: “Bringing Light Into The Darkness.” Luna is moon, so Hello Luna literally means to bring light into the darkness.
Could you name a song or two of yours that someone unfamiliar with Hello Luna could check out to get a sense of who you are?
One of our most popular/approachable songs is “Haywire.” It’s a happier, fun kind of song.
“Sweet and Deranged” would be the next song to check out. It highlights our newer, heavier direction and will be coming out on June 9th.
What is your approach to live performances and why should someone come see Hello Luna at Audiofeed?
Generally, I want to give as much energy as I possibly can. Live music is something that is healing for me. Every live performance is a blessing. And it’s something I want to give back to everyone else because it’s helped me and my healing journey. I try to project a lot of healing rage in my performances, and I try to put out positivity. I grew up in the metal scene, and even though you see people pushing and maybe think it’s toxic, there’s a lot of healing that comes in those spaces. I want people to feel seen find community at our shows.
Which artists and/or albums who influenced your music would be carved in stone on your Mount Rushmore?
I grew up as an iPod kid. It was the alt-rock heyday, Interpol, Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, the Shins. I was an indie-rock girl.
So my classic picks would be Interpol and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. My newer picks would be King Princess and Willow.
If you could have rider requests that HAD to be followed by venues and festivals, what would ABSOLUTELY be on it?
I’m pretty easy going. We’ve had riders before, really basic stuff like towels and Smart Water. But I would add Crystal Light, because I’m a weirdo who likes Crystal Light.
What kind of music does the band listen to in the van on the way to shows?
We usually listen to podcasts actually. Usually a lot of comedy skit ones like “Comedy Comedy Bang Bang.” Right before we get to a show we’ll listen to System of a Down to pump ourselves up so we’re not zombies. I’ve been woken up to System of a Down more times than I can count. It’s the worst. For long drivers we’ll put on no lyric music like Tycho and Bonobo.
Who are some other artists you’re looking forward to seeing at Audiofeed 2023?
I’m definitely excited to see Lightworker and Bloodlines for sure.
What are some future projects coming up for Hello Luna?
We have five songs we will be dropping throughout the year. Right now we’re waiting on the masters, everything we can do is done. We went in for a week, and me and a producer built 5 songs from the ground up. We worked with Capital House; he works with heavier artists like Hawthorne Heights and Beartooth. I’ve been working on a harder direction and wanted somebody who could help with that.
We have an EP coming out in October. June 9th, our single “Sweet and Deranged” will be dropped. Music video coming out as well. We will continue on the course of releasing singles. That’s the way things go anymore. We’ve got a short Ohio tour and I’d like to route some dates around Audiofeed. Also we are hoping to get some tour dates booked around the EP release.
