picturesque – iykyk

The atmosphere is electric on this EP from Picturesque, which is a band preparing for war it seems. Their sound melds together, rousing guitar segments with a whole load of attitude and lyrics that are thought-provoking too.

The band point out their mental disorders on this release, fighting for a break, a slice of happiness when it really matters, though it is impossible sometimes to find such luxuries.

Often this type of music gets dissected and scrutinised for its emo connections, but this record doesn’t fall fully into that mould, it drives home emotion when it’s needed.

It’s a good EP and Picturesque should be commended for their wordplay and their astuteness as they progress through life’s hardships. Every moment is crucial to any band trying to make it in this industry, one that has spat out so many acts into the ground, leaving them torn.

Strange Habits begins the EP, and it’s a soft introspection. The song boasts so much in terms of musicality and lyrical deepness, and the band truly demands to be noticed.

Hopeless starts with tight percussion and well threaded guitar notes. It explores mental instability and psychosis. The band takes their dark lyricism up a notch here.

Waterson West begins with monologues and tenderness. Every lyric means so much and they’re a fixture of hope as this band waits to rise.

Picturesque has put everything into this EP, and their sheer energy and focus are admirable.
