Inhaler – Cuts & Bruises

Cathartic and meaningful, Cuts & Bruises by Inhaler, dominates the brain with impactful choruses and stirring lyrics that don’t adhere to any rules or trends. The band say it as it is, and don’t sugar-coat or wrap their worries in cotton wool, but actually let them grow into relevant material that makes for an empowering listen.

The guitar presence on this LP is technical and different in a way that beats anything in the rock scene at the moment. It may sound audacious, but Inhaler has all the talent in the world to change perceptions and their own musical landscape, and piece by piece, they’ll maximise their hopes and desires.

Lyrically, the album takes a dark turn, and the words sharpen the story. From the onset, the act clearly feel the brunt of sadness and the nip of sorrow. Their optimism has been overlooked too, negatively spun into dangerous directions, falling into patterns of dread.

Though, it’s still a blast this record, with every lyric and guitar line optimised to create a sonic experience. Constructed by able musicians, it needs to be listened to in a room with people who desire a musical onslaught that might cut through the misery.

11 songs make up this album. So Far, So Good is a bass infused, guitar driven, chorus fuelled chronicle, with lyrics that direct towards love’s dark-side. Perfect Storm highlights the band’s knack for creating melodies, and the lyrics here point again to the downsides of love. A story brews, and there’s noises hitting all angles of the room.

Valentine breaks open a different direction, and the percussion is on point, as well as the bass-lines. The story keeps on going, and the bitterness grows beyond the dark room. Musically, the riff dazzles.

Inhaler has designed a record that pushes the boundaries of their sound, and within that sound, is a story that blitzes the common fable.
