Funeral For A Friend – Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation: A Debut Of Class And Composure.

When this humble, straggly act kick-started their emo revolution, music critics didn’t expect the rise in popularity. Many people didn’t expect this type of elevation either, but Welsh band Funeral For A Friend, became a standout band, and offered the outcasts a way through the hustle and bustle of an imposing world. The group brought out the best in their creative art, and released their debut behemoth, Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation, in 2003.

That album soared and pierced through the norm, highlighting this band as potential frontrunner. With this record, they moved in from the side-lines into the middle point, executing their music like warriors fighting for the prize. Yes, they were only starting out, but they were on the cusp of something special, and knew that this opus was going to station them onto the most mammoth of platforms.

Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation wasn’t brightly lit. It was a record dark in its delivery, but lyrically majestic, exploring teenage views and why the world is at moments, a cruel place. Lead singer Matt Davies opted to tell tales too, and it worked impeccably. His range, his lyrical prowess, all interweaved to create a unique melting pot. And he didn’t hold back or let his work stagnate, nor did his band members.

Every song had its place. They were interwoven meticulously, and for a debut, it was a standout. Many of these tracks, connected to the fanbase like a cord, and struck a chord at the same time. While being such a morbid and dark listen, it inspired many young people to embrace the world and their inner potential.

Rough around the edges but compelling, the record had 12 songs to listen to, and all tracks were balanced and composed with urgency. Juneau was a standout, a track bursting with flair. Davies sang and screamed, and the riff blew the minds. Escape Artists Never Die started with breakneck vocals. The chorus soared and lifted jaded minds. She Drove Me To Daytime Television created a craze and a spark, and was one of the most compelling tracks to emerge from the band’s talented minds.

Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation was a masterclass in raw songs which all connected. The band knew they had struck gold, and the fans who listened on had a record of substance to confide in.
