This is an emotive record. An EP boundless in creativity and sincerity, and it’s all from a Scottish act from Edinburgh, which can stake their claim as a band to watch with fixated eyes. Their new EP A World That Has Left You Unspoken, has the power to change perceptions. Not only does it sound remarkable, but it is lyrically imaginative, pushing the boundaries of poetry and stellar songwriting. Front-man Stewart Douglas sings with elegance and then pushes his voice wholeheartedly and elevates it when he needs to. On this EP the band play out, securing their place as an outfit which can offer something new and experimental.

The sadness is fundamental, the morose and melancholic tinges are legit. Throughout the EP, words merge like two lovers kissing life into one another, enforcing lust as a medication. Sequences of events are explored too, with many sentences harsh in their delivery, but they’re diverse and significant. This EP may not be for everyone, as the subtlety brushes every nook and cranny, every crevice. But people should applaud the lyrical smoothness, the storyline, the attack on the senses.

Twenty minutes of purity demands the listener’s attention. Decisive and joyous, pure in its output, A World That Has Left You Unspoken, by Wrest, features 5 songs worthy of praise. “Waiting For Poetry” starts with an acoustic balance and elegant vocals from Douglas. This song spearheads poetry in a new light, never sacrificing the integrity. The subject focuses on a man who suffers from unbearable pain. “Blood” is a main component to an emotional EP. Douglas raises his vocals here, and the instrumentals are more apparent, loud in places. Lyrically, he vocalizes god striking him down. There’s also an unremarkable face in a crowd of people. “Hello Indigo” features a great blend of instrumentals. The acoustic guitar becomes a crutch here. The lyrical quality matches that of many esteemed poets.

Wrest champions moroseness with expert lyricism and musicality. This Edinburgh outfit is on the road to the limelight.
