HAIM – “Now I’m In It”: HAIM is back, and they are here to make us think with an urgent single. There’s a vague sense of unsettlement that permeates the sound and visuals (experience for yourself below). The feel of this song is a bit of a different twist on a song about desire—emphasizing the longing of wanting to be more than friends as an irritating discomfort rather than a sad desire. Both sides are present, but HAIM prefers not to romanticize. The single is the second to be released from their forthcoming third album.

Sansol – “Truth Hurts (take01)”: Not a ton has been revealed about this new artist yet, but this track serves as a lowkey mission statement for what’s to come. So, what is to come? Lots of really honest, emotional bangers in all likelihood. It doesn’t get much more real than a hook of “I keep trying to run away” on repeat. This sound exists somewhere in space between Post Malone and Travis Scott but with enough creativity to make me feel a tiny bit bad I felt the need to name drop at all. Instagram indicates more bops on Soundcloud are to come. I would venture the next release will be short and sweet as well—and reveal a bit more about the personality of Sansol.

Sam Tinnesz – “Human”: The cinematic pop artist (that you’ve probably heard in a movie trailer or commercial and just didn’t know it) is back with a ballad. I’m trying to avoid using the cliches to describe a cinematic ballad (raw, emotional, atmospheric), but sometimes you have to fall back on the old standbys to articulate yourself the best. There’s a haunting quality in his vocals that I haven’t heard in a Sam Tinnesz song before (that includes his other project Wave & Rome). Zone out to this.

Miracle Sweepstakes – “Relative Mind”: What do you get when you mix a lo-fi aesthetic with lush piano pop? You get this track, which is more polished than you might expect. The soft vocals are archetypal dreampop in tone, and the overall way the whole song comes together is a bit off-kilter yet satisfying all the same. Fans of Real Estate will appreciate this. The band releases an album, Rorschached, on November 22 via One Weird Trick.

GHSTWRLD – “Everything (feat. Metaxas)”: I’m going to go ahead and label this sound dream-disco. It mixes the daytime disco sensibilities of Poolside with what might have happened if Tycho had chosen a male vocalist for his Weather album. My earbuds I’m enjoying this song with at the moment are wholly inadequate—and I know that even without hearing the song in Bose. I know what I’m doing when I get home from this cafe.
