I’m hard pressed to think of a catchy opener for this write-up, so I figured honesty was the best policy, here. Luckily, this band has a lot more to offer than a music blogger hitting a microcosm of writer’s block!
Motherfolk (who totally named their band for the reason you’re probably thinking, I’d hedge) are Cincinnati based. They’ve made waves on the DIY indie circuit for the better part of 5 years—that’s how long I’ve been paying attention, at least. The vocals are unique—they carry the husk of Needtobreathe’s Bear Rinehart and the tonality of Saintseneca’s Zac Little. I’d describe the music as being for fans of both of those bands, as well as lovers of Local Natives and The Head and the Heart.
This will be Motherfolk’s first time playing Audiofeed. With the earnestness of their overall sound, they ought to fit right into this festival. Audiofeed is a festival for weird people where everyone is family. So we thought we’d welcome them into the Tuned Up family once more by inviting them to partake in our Audiofeed 2019 Q&A.
What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Nacho Cheese.
If your music was a cocktail (or other liquid concoction), what would it be?
Probably an Old Fashion. Extra Bourbon.
What’s a memorable live show you’ve played?
Every year we put on a hometown Christmas show, and every year it gets bigger and better. The past one we did at the end of 2018 was a very memorable night.
What music has really impacted you this year? Why?
As a band we’ve been listening to a lot of Young Mister. Other artists we frequently listen to are Sun Hotel, All Get Out, Dan Mangan, David Bazan, and so many others. Those artist are always impacting us with what they put out.
What books or films have impacted you in the past year? Why?
Not sure about books or films, but as a band we’ve been watching a lot of “I Think You Should Leave” and “Detroiters” on the road. They make us laugh a lot!
What is your one weird thing you never tour without?
TNT Pop-its
What is that don’t-miss spot in your hometown?
There’s a great local burger joint called Steak n Shake. If you’re ever in Cincinnati, check it out.
Besides Audiofeed what is a don’t-miss festival?
Mile of Music in Appleton, WI is always one of our faves to play/attend.
What is the most exciting thing happening in your world right now?
We finally have new music coming soon!
